Two days are enough for the old town and the lake, without the villages around it. Three days let you add Talloires, Duingt or Menthon-Saint-Bernard and a trip into the mountains. Beyond that, the guides talk about four to five days for the full circuit.

Here is what each length of stay really allows, visit times measured in hours rather than vague phrases, and what the sources do not publish.

Should you allow two days, three days, or more?

2 days: the historic centre and the lake, without the outlying villages. It is the format most often quoted in guides from 2024 to 2026.
3 days: adds one or two villages around the lake (Talloires, Menthon-Saint-Bernard, Duingt) and a mountain hike.
4 to 5 days: a 2026 source presents this as necessary to cover the lakeside villages and a longer excursion, on top of the basic plan.

A third day is not for seeing the centre again more slowly: it is for getting out of Annecy. Without it, the lake loop or the villages remain a drive-through, with no real stop.

What do you gain with a third day?

Why do the tourist office's opening hours change with the page you read?

The Lake Annecy tourist office publishes 9am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday in summer on its French page. The English version announces opening every day at the same times, while a Spanish version from 2025 details different time slots by month, with a midday closure out of season.

These versions are not aligned with each other, and no single table reconciles them. We do not decide which is the most up to date: check the hours on the page in the language you are using, on the day of your visit.

The same vagueness applies to the weekly closing days of the Palais de l'Île and the Musée-Château: none of the sources consulted gives them. That is a gap on the tourist offices' side, not an oversight on ours.
