Park and ride in Annecy: a system that is only half published
No official list, no pass price, no stated capacity. What is published: the seasonal charging of the outlying car parks, and the price gap with the lakeside.
In many towns, park and ride is a well-documented given: a list, a price, a bus ticket included. In Annecy, that page does not exist. Public sources describe street parking in great detail, and park and ride very poorly.
For English-speaking visitors, the question arises mostly with a hire car picked up at Geneva airport, about 40 km away. Rather than fill the gap with guesswork, here is what is actually published, what can be deduced from it, and what you need to check on the spot.

What does "park and ride" mean in Annecy?
Tourist pages recommend parking on the outskirts and then taking the bus into the centre. It is a piece of advice, not a named and priced scheme like the P+R car parks of other cities.
One unofficial source says that Annecy's park and ride car parks are reserved for Sibra subscribers holding the annual Liberté pass. If that is right, it is not a service open to passing visitors but a perk for pass holders. No official document confirms it.
Another tourist source, a 2024 motorhome guide, presents park and ride as free parking outside the centre, with no price and no conditions. The two claims cannot both be true.
When are the outlying car parks charged?
This is the most useful fact in the file, and it comes straight from the municipal document: outlying car parks are only charged from 1 July to 31 August.
In other words, ten months out of twelve, parking on the outskirts of Annecy is free. The "leave the car outside the centre" reflex is therefore excellent out of season, and becomes a calculation in July and August.
The problem is that the town does not publish the list of car parks affected by this switch. We know it exists, we do not know where it applies. Here again, the sign on the spot is what counts.
How much does the outskirts cost compared with the lakeside?
The gap is easy to put a number on, because both ends of the tariff are published. By the lake, €0.70 per quarter hour, 9am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday, public holidays included.
In the green or orange zone, €0.30 per quarter hour, with a free break between noon and 2pm. A full day therefore costs more than twice as much by the water, with the added €35 cap beyond 7 hr 45 min.
For a stay of several days, the Chevêne multi-storey car park remains the best published benchmark: €15.00 for 24 hours, then €1.00 for each further 24 hours. Three days come to €17.
The real trade-off: at these prices, a room with parking included fifteen minutes from the centre often works out cheaper than a waterfront address plus parking. The accommodation search for Annecy lets you filter on parking before comparing.

The imbalance in documentation is striking. The town publishes a street tariff down to the quarter hour, and nothing comparable for park and ride.
- No list: no names, addresses, capacities or opening hours.
- No specific price and no pass tariff for these car parks.
- No instructions: accepted payment methods, how the barriers open, link with the bus ticket.
- No occupancy data: no way of knowing whether they fill up, or at what time.
- No accessibility provision described, beyond the general 12 hr of free street parking for holders of a French GIC, GIG or CMI disability card.
Annecy also has no usable open data portal: nobody can display live space availability, neither us nor any other website. Be wary of pages that claim otherwise.
Which method works despite the lack of information?
With no clear scheme, the strategy that holds up combines what is published. It works for a day trip as well as for a weekend.
- Outside July and August: aim for an outlying car park, free during that period, and finish on foot or by bus.
- In July and August: aim for the Chevêne multi-storey rather than the lakeside streets, and forget about parking near the water on a Saturday.
- For a quick errand: Bonlieu at €1.60 an hour, right by the Pâquier.
- In every case: keep an eye on the time by the lake, where the €35 charge applies after 7 hr 45 min.
One regulatory constraint remains: a municipal by-law strictly bans many vehicles from driving and parking on the lake shores, with exceptions. The shores are not an overflow car park.
